Gardaí accused of continually lying about Ludlow murder

The brother of a Co Louth man killed by loyalist paramilitaries 30 years ago has accused Gardaí of continually lying about the case.

Kevin Ludlow made the accusation today as the Oireachtas justice committee began holding public hearings into the Barron Report on the murder of his brother, Seamus.

That report severely criticised the garda investigation into the killing of the 47-year-old in May 1976.

It said the RUC had given the Gardaí the names of four loyalists it believed were involved, but the Gardaí never pursued the information.

Speaking before the Oireachtas justice committee today, Mr Ludlow said the Gardaí continually misled his family into thinking the IRA was responsible.

"We were told lies day after day every time we talked to the guards," he said.
