SF calls for inquiry into '76 murder

Sinn Fein yesterday urged the Irish government to hold an inquiry into the Seamus Ludlow murder in public.

Cavan-Monaghan TD Caoimhghin O Caolain reacted angrily to the decision by the Northern Director of Public Prosecutions not to press charges over the murder.

Mr Ludlow (47) was killed in Dundalk and dumped near the border in 1976 - loyalists have been blamed for the murder.

Mr O Caolain said: 2There has been a cover-up in this case by both the RUC and Gardai for over two decades.

"The family of the victim have been treated abominably and this decision compounds their grief."
