The Irish Sun, 7 September 2005:

'Loyalist kill was random'

By Sun Reporter

Murdered forestry worker Seamus Ludlow was the victim of a random loyalist killing, an inquest heard today.

Mr Ludlow, 47, was shot three times after allegedly being kidnapped by four members of the Ulster Defence Association as he walked home in Dundalk Co Louth, in May 1976.

Former Garda chief Superintendent Ted Murphy told Dundalk Coroner's Court: "It looks like the intention was to kill somebody, it did not matter who."

Mr Murphy ordered a review of the killing after calls by Mr Ludlow's family.

Two suspects admitted the murder after being arrested by RUC cops in 1998 - but no charges were brought. Verdict: Unlawful killing.
