The Argus, 22 February 2006:

Publication of Barron Report delayed to try and give names

Mr Justice Henry Barron: his report on the Dundalk bombing is expected soon. The publication of the Barron Report into the 1975 Dundalk bombing has been delayed to see if the names of the perpetrators can be included, according to sources.

Me Justice Henry Barron had almost completed his report following his investigations into the bombing of Kay's Tavern in Crowe Street on December 19th in which Jack Rooney and Hugh Watters were murdered.

The report, which has been awaited by the men's families for almost three years, was due to be published this month, but the Argus understands that it has now been delayed.

It is thought that Justice Barron is seeking to include the names of the men who probably carried out the car bomb attack.

Mr Rooney's daughter, Maura McKeever, who, with Mr Watters' daughter Margaret has ben campaigning for justice for a number of years, yesterday told the Argus they had given up hope of ever geting prosecutions in the case.

Her sentiments echoed those of the family of murdered Dundalk man Seamus Ludlow who yesterday told an Oireachtas committee that they had given up all hope of seeing the men who killed him in court..

Mrs McKeever, who was with Jimmy Sharkey and other members of the Ludlow family in Dublin for the committee hearings, said she was not aware of the delay in publication.

She said, "Justice Barron told me the last time I was talking to him that he was waiting on information from a source. He didn't say who or what that source was.

"I don't really care if the names of those suspected of killing my father and Mr Watters are in the report or not. They have been in the public domain for quite a while and I know who they are.

"We continue to seek a full inquiry into the actions of the Gardai and the Government of the day subsequent to the bombing. We wamt to know who knew what and when".
