6 December 2005: The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights and its Sub-Committee on the Barron Report on the Murder of Seamus Ludlow published a Request for Submissions in today's Irish News and Irish Independent newspapers.

SUB-COMMITTEE ON THE BARRON REPORT ON THE MURDER OF SEAMUS LUDLOW

 

 

REQUEST FOR SUBMISSIONS

 

 

By Resolution of Dail Eireann and Seanad Eireann on 3rd November 2005, the Report of the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Murder of Seamus Ludlow, which had been presented to the Government by Mr Justice Henry Barron, was referred to the Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights, chaired by Sean Ardagh TD. On 3rd November 2005, the Joint Committee published the Report as part of its 'Interim Reporet of the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Murder of Seamus Ludlow'. The Joint Committee has decided to to establish a Sub-Committee, to be called the Sub-Committee on the Barron Report on the Murder of Seamus Ludlow, to consider, including in public session, the Report of the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Murder of Seamus Ludlow, and to report back to the Joint Committee concerning any further necessary action.

 

The Joint Committee has also decided:

  • that submissions relevant to its Orders of Reference, both written and oral, will be sought from interested persons or bodies;

  • that a series of hearings will be held, in public session, to commence in January 2006;

  • that the Sub-Committee will in due course, submit a report to the Joint Oireachtas Committee which will, in accordance with the terms of the Motions of Referral, report back to the Houses by 31st March, 2006.

The  Members of the Sub-Committee are Deputies Sean Ardagh (Chairperson), Joe Costelo, Maire Hoctor, Finian McGrath, Gerard Murphy, Peter Power, and Senator Jim Walsh.

 

The interim Report is available for viewing on the Oireachtas website (www.oireachtas.ie) and hard copies are also available from the Committee Secretariat at the address indicated below.

 

 

As part of its consideration of the Report, the Sub-Committee intends to hold a series of public hearings, starting in January 2006, which various interested parties and bodies and some of the persons referred to in the report will be invited to attend. In order to assist the Sub-Committee in the hearings process, submissions relevant to its Orders of Reference are invited from interested parties and bodies and from members of tghe general public.
